Dr. Sherfey is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery and has fellowship training in Adult Reconstructive Surgery of the Hip and Knee from the Texas Hip and Knee Center in Fort Worth, TX. He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Michigan State University/MSUCOM, Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, MI, and earned his DO from Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, CA. He serves as the Medical Director for the Kennewick General Hospital Total Joint Program and is an adjunct faculty member at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences.

Dr. Sherfey is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Medical Association, Washington State Orthopedic Association, Washington Osteopathic Medical Association, Washington State Medical Association, and Benton Franklin County Medical Society.

His orthopedic interests include adult reconstructive and total joint surgery, total hip and total knee surgery, sports medicine (including knee arthroscopy and rotator cuff repair), PRP/regenerative injection options, arthritis care (including joint injections), fracture care, hand surgery, musculoskeletal care, and care of the injured worker.

As for luck against injury, I don’t seem to have any, it’s been a long time since I’ve been physically healthy, but I do consider myself lucky to have the staff at Benton Franklin Orthopedic Association involved with my recovery, after total knee replacement surgery in 2017 that couldn’t have gone better to shattering my knee cap (same knee) Thanksgiving 2021, after breaking the Knee cap again recently I know I’m in the best hands when Dr.Michael Sherfy DO surgically repairs my knee once again, hopefully the last time. Dr. Michael Sherfey and his staff at BFOA are amazing! I had arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a meniscus tear and removal of bone fragments and bone spurs. My recovery is going well and I am seeing great progress as I follow his directions. Dr. Sherfey had done my other knee 3 years ago and I have had wonderful results from that procedure. He also performed my brother's knee replacement and my husband's hip replacement. Both of them have had remarkable results and are doing great! Dr. Sherfey is extremely caring and understanding. He reviews the X-rays in detail with you and discusses treatment options. Unlike some other physicians, he doesn't push surgery if there are other alternatives that will benefit you instead. Had a short wait to see the doctor. Within minutes of completing the medical forms was taken to the examination room. After discussing the reason for my visit was immediately taken for x-rays. I was having problems with my right knee and leg; It was getting to where I could not walk. I had been to hospital emergency room twice within the last two weeks, They checked me for blood clots and slow blood circulation none of this was found to be bad. I made an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon and was able to get in within 3 days. After having x-rays within an hour the doctor had determined that the swelling and pain was coming from my knee he gave me a shot of Cortizone and after a half an hour I was able to walk out of the office without assistance from a cane. I would recommend Dr Sherfey and his staff for any orthopedic problems that one might have, they are great people. very attentive and informative on what is going on.
