DR. DAVID W. FISCHER

“While I enjoy general orthopedic surgery, I have a special interest in hand, wrist and elbow surgery. The human hand and wrist fascinate me most with their intricate anatomical parts and interactive function. It’s gratifying to help restore the patient’s use of his or her hands to return to activities of daily living, including work.

“I like to think of my patients as part of my family, trying to keep their best interest foremost.”

DR. DAVID W. FISCHER, MD, FAAOS

Orthopedic Interests:

  • Orthopedic and Hand Surgery

Growing up in Idaho with his four younger brothers, Dr. Fischer spent many hours in his father's medical family practice office. He was always intrigued by developing X-rays and the use of plaster for casting.  When Dr. Fischer started medical school, his first major class was anatomy, a subject that fascinated him and continues to do so. After a full week of medical school classes, he spent Friday afternoons observing hand and upper extremity surgeries in the operating room at the University Hospital.

While Dr. Fischer enjoys general orthopedic surgery, he has a special interest in hand, wrist, and elbow surgery. The intricate anatomical parts and interactive functions of the human hand and wrist fascinate him the most. He finds it gratifying to help restore patients' use of their hands, enabling them to return to their daily activities, including work.

Dr. Fischer likes to think of his patients as part of his family, always keeping their best interests foremost.
