At Benton Franklin Orthopedic Associates, we understand that expertise makes all the difference when it comes to foot and ankle care. Residents of the Tri-Cities no longer need to travel far to receive first-rate podiatry care. Our team, led by Dr. Derrick McKay, is dedicated to utilizing leading-edge technologies and modalities to dramatically reduce pain and improve the success rate of treatment.
Our Trauma and Foot/Ankle clinic offers comprehensive care for orthopedic conditions below the knee for both adult and pediatric patients.
This includes:
Many people suffer from foot disorders, whether it’s athlete’s foot, ingrown nails, or plantar fasciitis. Heredity, foot care habits, and medical conditions may compound problems. Because foot issues can lead to pain in other parts of the body, it’s important to get any concerns checked out by a foot doctor—formally called a podiatrist—before they progress.
Sometimes issues can be more serious, like a diabetic foot infection or broken ankle. Turn to our Podiatry, Foot & Ankle Surgery Department for complete foot care for adults and children. Our podiatrists and podiatric surgeons diagnose and treat the toes, feet, ankles, and legs. We offer surgical options at our Ambulatory Surgery Center, saving patients a hospital stay. We can even offer shoe advice. The goal of our experts is simple: Relieve pain and get people moving comfortably again.
During a consultation, patients experience a personalized conversation with their physician. Specific treatment options are discussed, and the patient has the opportunity to get their questions answered. The team’s goal is to put the patient at ease by helping them understand the scope of treatment and offering the highest level of attentive care.
Dr. McKay's expertise in foot and ankle surgery ensures that you receive the highest quality care. At Benton Franklin Orthopedic Associates, we are committed to helping you get back on your feet and resume your normal activities with confidence.
We help solve issues related to the feet, ankles, and lower extremities, including:
Podiatrists, podiatric physicians, and podiatric surgeons are all terms used to describe doctors of podiatric medicine (DPMs). Each is uniquely qualified among medical professionals to treat the foot and ankle based on their education, training, and experience.
The amount and type of surgical procedures performed by podiatrists may vary based on an individual’s training and experience, coupled with the goals and expectations of his or her patients.
No, you can self-refer to any of our podiatrists. However, your insurance carrier may require a referral before covering appointments and treatments. Check with your insurance company to understand your specific benefits.
Meet Dr. Derrick McKay, DPM, FACFAS
Dr. McKay was introduced to foot and ankle surgery when he began college and was immediately fascinated by the complexities of the foot and ankle. He frequently hears patients say, “I don’t notice my feet until they start bothering me.” Foot and ankle pain can be very debilitating and interfere with daily activities. Dr. McKay enjoys helping people literally get back on their feet and resume their normal lives.
While living in Chicago and Boston during his medical training, Dr. McKay still considered the Columbia Basin to be home. As a Kennewick native, it was important to him to return to the Tri-Cities to begin his career and give back to the community that has already given him so much.
Dr. McKay is board certified in Foot & Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery®. He is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He attended podiatric school at Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery and completed his residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, MA. His special emphasis areas include foot and ankle surgery, trauma, sports medicine, and pediatric and adult deformity corrections.
In his free time, Dr. McKay enjoys reading, playing tennis, hiking and camping, and spending time with his wife and two children.
At Benton Franklin Orthopedic Associates, we are dedicated to providing exceptional foot and ankle care to help you live a pain-free and active life.
